I am equally good in Science and Commerce so confused what to choose after 10th?

Sir, I have given my 10th exams this year. I am most confused in choosing either Science or Comerce.

I am equally good in both, as seen by my academics. Could you suggest something? You may also ask me if you require more information?

If you want to get in to accounting field, then there is no point in taking Science. However, if you are unsure, taking Science stream could be the best option, as students from Science can take Commerce / Arts after 12th, while it is not possible the other way around.

One important thing to consider while taking Science is that you should be extremely good in Science (PCB), making sure you get good percentage in your 12th, as the cut-off for Commerce after 12th is higher for students from other streams.

I wonder how many subject of accounting you had in your School level to say that you are good in Commerce?

You learn¬†Science from practically your 1st grade, but you don’t have Commerce or Accounting subjects from so early on, except in few board where there is only introductory level of commerce in 9th and 10th grade. So, to state that you are equally good in both doesn’t fit the equation.

The level of Commerce is not equal to the level of Science in School.

To succeed in a field, you need choose something you have interest in doing and for the one you have the best aptitude/skill to match. Secondly, choosing of your Commerce or Science also depends on your overall percentage.

If you get great marks overall and excellent scores in Science, you may safely take Science and pursue it till 12th. If you feel later that Science is too tough or your interest is not as much, you may still switch to Commerce.

Commerce has more accounting subjects, and hence a good hold on numbers and interest in it is the basic requirement to pursue it.

It has some great professional courses like CA, ICWA, MBA Finance, CFA etc., that would leverage your career to greater heights.

So, wait for your results and weigh the pros and cons and select a suitable stream. All the best!
