The IITs have decided to consider students with 75% and above in Class XII board examinations, provided they have cleared the JEE (Advanced).
The issue came up for discusson after around 200 students, who had cleared the JEE examination, could’nt get admission in the ongoing academic session as they did not figure in the top 20 percentile, which is a must as per current norms.
Shri. Ashok Thakur, Secretary, HRD Ministry, told the press that, “In addition to the top-20 percentile condition, it has been decided now to give another provision [to aspirants seeking admission], which is the marks secured in the board exams”.
As per the new norms, a student should have secured 75% marks and those belonging only to SC, ST, and physically challenged categories should have got 70 per cent marks.
